- Saturday, August 16 Santa Fe River cleanup – Help keep our river looking
great! Park at Lower Alto Street, north end of Closson. Bring work boots, gloves,
and drinking water. Kathleen Davis (505/438-0357, kdav40@aol.com –

- Sunday, August 17 Stewart Lake loop hike – 10-11 miles, 2100' gain. Moderate-
strenuous. Dogs okay. Royal Drews (505/699-8713 – Northern Group).
- Saturday, August 23 Mimbres Archaeological Tour at Three Circle Mimbres
site and Petroglyph Canyon, with Black Range archaeologist Chris Adams –
No long hikes. Wear sturdy footgear. Bring camera, lunch, snacks, water. Margot
Wilson (575/744-5860 – Southern Group).
- Saturday-Sunday, August 23-31: West Fork of the Dolores River outing,
southwestern Colorado – One week or part-time in a cabin. Sleeps 6, some
room for a tent or sleep on floor. Moderate day hikes in nearby mountains Wellbehaved
dogs okay. Reservations required. Norma McCallan (505/471-0005 –
Northern Group).
- Saturday, August 23: Cowles / SF Ski Basin crossover with two groups (key exchange),
11 - 13 miles. Choose either 1500' gain from ski basin or 3200' gain and faster pace from Cowles side. Dogs may be ok.

- Sunday, August 24: Rio En Medio/La Junta loop hike – 13 miles, 2800' gain.
Strenuous. Dogs okay. Dan Rusthoi (505/690-8967 – Northern Group).
- Sunday, August 24: Three Gun/Embudo hike, in the Sandias – 6 miles, 1700'
gain. Moderate. Bring lunch, plenty of liquids, and a jacket in case of showers.

- Thursday-Monday, August 28-September 1: Holy Ghost Campground family
camping, in Pecos area – Great facilities include gazebo with seating for 40,
water, modern pit toilets. Dense mature spruce forest with some aspen. 75 miles
from Los Alamos, good hiking possibilities. Group meals possible. Eight cars or
RVs allowed, $25 per vehicle plus $5 per person, maximum of 40 people; reservations
a must. Dick and Judy Opsahl (505/662-9404, opsahl@losalamos.com –
Pajarito Group).
- Saturday, August 30: Wheeler Peak hike, New Mexico’s highest peak –
9-15 miles, 4300' gain. Strenuous Early start. Possibly as a loop. Dogs okay.

- Sunday, August 31: Pecos Baldy Lake hike – 15-17 miles, 2600-3800'
gain. Strenuous. With East PB Peak optional. Dogs okay. Tobin Oruch.
